Unfortunately, this restaurant does not pay attention to the written requests which accompany one's order. I asked for 2 plates and hot oil on the side and the requests were ignored. The shredded chicken in garlic sauce, advertized as spicy, was mild.

Excellent, authentic Szechuan cuisine. Nice and spicy.

Ordered the Mapo Tofu and Sesame noodles. Both were terrible and just covered in hot oil. No flavor or character. Very disappointed

Expensive and just ok. Quality issues with the meats.

Great Chinese food. They even gave me something for free after ordering a couple times.

It doesn't get any better than this for Szechuan food in midtown. As the lines at the restaurant attests, the medley of heat and flavors are amazing.

Let me start by saying that I'm Jewish and have been living in Murray Hill for 10 years (shocker I know...) so I think I'm qualified to rate Chinese food in this town. Over the years I've enjoyed the highs of Chinese cuisine (Wild Ginger in the 20's...Closed) as well as the lows. I can say without any hesitation that I have just experienced possibly the worst, most inedible, Chinese food in the city. I've had better Chinese in London and believe me that’s a rough town for food. We ordered the standards and all the dishes arrived swimming in oil. Honestly it was a total disgrace. I ordered from this restaurant based on the reviews and I felt I had to save other unsuspecting diners from this travesty. Even in the oil they had no flavor, almost hard to do. The sesame chicken and the steak was tender but had absolutely no taste. So basically I could of gotten the same stomach ache drinking a bottle of cooking oil and would have saved the $60...Which I will need now as a co-pay at NYU to get my stomach pumped. I haven’t found the right replacement for my favorite place that closed 2 years ago but I will continue the hunt. Hey, it’s my religion, it’s what we do.

Make sure that you stick with Szechuan specialties. The Double Cooked Pork lunch special is great.

Good option if you like spicy food. Flavorful, fresh and not too oily.

Authentic Sichuan, cheaper than Wu Liang Ye. Delivery reasonably prompt except on rainy days. One of my "frequent" restaurants.

I just ordered the the Stir-Fried Chicken Breast w/ Mixed Veg lunch special and was upset at the lack of vegetables. There was A LOT of chicken, a few carrots, 3 snow peas, and some mushrumps. The dish looked really unappetizing - it was very white and slimy - but it tasted surprisingly good. Since I ordered for pick up, the whole thing only cost me $8 and it came with egg drop soup (also tasty). I might try reordering from Szechuan Gourmet, but I think I'll choose something from the 'most popular items' list next time.

I went to Szechuan Gourmet with a friend because of their 2 star nytimes review and the fact that I can walk to lunch from work on 42 street.. I just made the connection that I don't need to order mediocre Murray Hill takeout anymore. The flavors are so unique - if you like spicy, this the place for you. There are lots of uncommon items on the menu that are worth a try, but if you would like to stay simple, items like the Chicken and Broccoli are really flavorful. To top it off, I ordered at 5:02 and the food was at my door at 5:16. In addition, if you dinner order is over $20 you get free spicy sesame noodles!
