Authentic Chinese food. Their Cantonese dishes are good too. Their food is never too oily and salty like other Chinese restaurants. The best in mid-town area.

The food took 1.5hrs to get here and when I called to get an ETA, they just said the food was on the way and hung up. They didn't even bother to ask for my name. My crispy spicy garlic chicken wasn't crispy, but maybe that had something to do with it being 1.5hrs before it got delivered.

Awesome food, Fish with Roasted Chili is the best.

Food is great, but check your order before you let the delivery guy leave! Got 1 of my entrees wrong, and one was missing. Seamless Web credited the account for these items. If not for them, I probably wouldn't have gotten my money back.

Worst delivery service ever. It took 2 hours for the food to arrive and the restaurant is only a few blocks away from my office. Never ordering from here again.

Spicy, delicious, authentic, YUM. We order SG several times each week. Ma Po Tofu is superb.

I love their food but the delivery guy was not nice. I don't know what attitude it was.

Food is fine. Delivery is always slow. Whenever you call they tell you it is on its way... They lie

Exquisite food - I am never disappointed

These guys never deliver upstairs when I am at work. I have tried calling them. Put the comments in notes. They come to the lobby and call me all the time. Horrible.

Ma po doufu here if asked to make chinese style with ma jiang is very good

The food was terrible and none of the ingredients tasted fresh. The sesame chicken tasted like the chicken was days old and dry. I would not buy from this place again.

Service and Food. I ordered food on May 12th at 2:48 pm and paid for it to be delivered. It did not arrive until almost 3:45 pm. I called the front desk, no apology, no mention of discounting the order. The delivery man is always very nice, and he was obviously over-burdened. My food was cold and coagulated by the time it arrived and they still charged me for it, even though the delivery time is listed as 15-30 minutes. The restaurant is on West 39th Street and I am on West 31st Street. I am never ordering from this place again.

Really good food for the price!

A bit expensive for Chinese food but very good. Not too oily. Love the wonton soup.

pot stickers were amazing, spicy sesame noodles were very peppery this time (aka too much black pepper) as opposed to previous times where it was more of a hot chili and light vinegar taste. Double cooked pork was delicious although kinda fatty. Its like eating cooked bacon.

Ordered an item with no pork in it (a shrimp dish) they added pork I asked for the sauce on the side with sweet and sour chicken, so it would not be all soggy when it arrived, they called and told me they could not do that, it arrived soggy, and with little sauce. it's decent, but not the best by a long shot. Chicken (if it was not soggy) would have been much better, it was quality chicken, they just ruined it.

great food, delivery sometimes takes a while and the delivery people can never seem to spare a smile even though tipped appropriately, but great food!

My favorite Chinese delivery. I've ordered a lot of dishes and have never been disappointed - some of my favorites being mapo tofu, dan dan noodles, chili dumplings, pork dumplings, hot and sour soup, dbl cooked pork, crispy lamb and general tsos.

The food is good, but overpriced. But the delivery service is bad. One time I waited for over an hour; one time the delivery guy called me by mistake which made me to wait for 15 minutes downstairs. What is irratating the is the lady who answers the phone always dimisses the question--whatever the problem is, by saying the food will be there shortly. She doesn't even bother to check. More than 3 bad experiences make the place not worth the trouble. If you like spicy chineses food, tray Lan Sheng just across the street.

Have had much better Chinese.

This was horrible. Took 1 hour and 15 minutes to get Chinese food delivered 2 blocks away! Chinese food is supposed to take 8 minutes and 39 seconds to be delivered! Then, instead of 3 Won Ton Soups in the order they gave us egg drop or sweet and spicy. NEVER AGAIN!

Great food, delivery times were misrepresented. Site said 15-30 min after confirmation, took over 90min for delivery to show up.

delivery estimate was 15-30 minutes and ended up being over 2 hours and whenever i called to check on it, they kept saying "the boy" was on his way.

Unfortunately, this restaurant does not pay attention to the written requests which accompany one's order. I asked for 2 plates and hot oil on the side and the requests were ignored. The shredded chicken in garlic sauce, advertized as spicy, was mild.

Ordered the Mapo Tofu and Sesame noodles. Both were terrible and just covered in hot oil. No flavor or character. Very disappointed

Salty... tasted like vinegar (brown sauce)

It doesn't get any better than this for Szechuan food in midtown. As the lines at the restaurant attests, the medley of heat and flavors are amazing.

Let me start by saying that I'm Jewish and have been living in Murray Hill for 10 years (shocker I know...) so I think I'm qualified to rate Chinese food in this town. Over the years I've enjoyed the highs of Chinese cuisine (Wild Ginger in the 20's...Closed) as well as the lows. I can say without any hesitation that I have just experienced possibly the worst, most inedible, Chinese food in the city. I've had better Chinese in London and believe me that’s a rough town for food. We ordered the standards and all the dishes arrived swimming in oil. Honestly it was a total disgrace. I ordered from this restaurant based on the reviews and I felt I had to save other unsuspecting diners from this travesty. Even in the oil they had no flavor, almost hard to do. The sesame chicken and the steak was tender but had absolutely no taste. So basically I could of gotten the same stomach ache drinking a bottle of cooking oil and would have saved the $60...Which I will need now as a co-pay at NYU to get my stomach pumped. I haven’t found the right replacement for my favorite place that closed 2 years ago but I will continue the hunt. Hey, it’s my religion, it’s what we do.

Authentic Sichuan, cheaper than Wu Liang Ye. Delivery reasonably prompt except on rainy days. One of my "frequent" restaurants.

I just ordered the the Stir-Fried Chicken Breast w/ Mixed Veg lunch special and was upset at the lack of vegetables. There was A LOT of chicken, a few carrots, 3 snow peas, and some mushrumps. The dish looked really unappetizing - it was very white and slimy - but it tasted surprisingly good. Since I ordered for pick up, the whole thing only cost me $8 and it came with egg drop soup (also tasty). I might try reordering from Szechuan Gourmet, but I think I'll choose something from the 'most popular items' list next time.

I went to Szechuan Gourmet with a friend because of their 2 star nytimes review and the fact that I can walk to lunch from work on 42 street.. I just made the connection that I don't need to order mediocre Murray Hill takeout anymore. The flavors are so unique - if you like spicy, this the place for you. There are lots of uncommon items on the menu that are worth a try, but if you would like to stay simple, items like the Chicken and Broccoli are really flavorful. To top it off, I ordered at 5:02 and the food was at my door at 5:16. In addition, if you dinner order is over $20 you get free spicy sesame noodles!
